Pledger Agan and Maulsie Bell Agan were the pioneers of Agan’s Bakery, opening the first bakery at 1 West Church Street in downtown Cartersville in 1961. They had a passion for serving the community and helping families celebrate. Their oldest son, Jimmy L. Agan began working for his family business in 1972 after receiving his Bachelor’s Degree from West Georgia College, and serving in the United States Marine Corps. Upon Maulsie and Pledger Agan’s retirement, Jimmy asked for them not to sell their name “Agan’s Bakery.”

In 1982, Jimmy L. Agan purchased a building, 141 W. Main Street, in the heart of “Downtown Cartersville” and began his very own Agan’s Bakery. Since then, he has received several awards for downtown enhancement. His love for his family and community gave him the drive to build his business from the ground up, along with starting his real estate business, Agan Holding Co.

Abbey Agan, the 3rd generation Agan to run the bakery, received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Georgia in May 2006. While attending college, she also competed on the UGA Track and Field team, lettering in pole-vault and competing in NCAA Regional’s.

Abbey moved back to Cartersville in August 2006 and began working at the bakery part-time, giving her father a little time off. She fell in love with serving her community and felt a passion to carry on the Agan’s Bakery Tradition. Helping someone celebrate a birthday, anniversary, wedding day, baby shower, or any special occasion gives her a sense of fulfillment.

Abbey enjoys her work and loves her wonderful customers and employees. After working at Agan’s Bakery for a couple of years, she is driven to continue growing the business and sharing Agan’s hand-made products with people all over the world.
